Help! I Want to Stop Gambling Now

Have you decided that it is finally time to stop playing? Have you also realized that you need help? Are you uncomfortable talking about it? First of all, many people find that it is a difficult decision to make and that you may feel embarrassed. Sometimes it’s hard to ask for help, but at one point or another, everyone needs help. It is not a sign of weakness to ask for help; in fact, it often takes strength to admit that you have a problem, such as a gambling addiction or compulsive gambling, and might need a little help. As a therapist, I have often heard people say that they feel different from other people and that they feel separate or isolated. In fact, that’s something that a lot of people have in common.

I’ve often heard, “If only people knew the real me.”

The interesting thing is that I heard the same thing over and over again and yet each person felt that he or she was the only one in the world who felt that way. You will be surprised to learn that millions of people have felt the way you do now and that there are many people who understand exactly what you are going through and are willing to help you. You can also be sure that you UFA  will not be looked down upon. Yes, there will be some cocky people who have never dealt with a powerful addiction who may look down on people who have to deal with an addiction like gambling, but their opinions don’t matter because they have never experienced what you are. living. It could be said that they are ignorant.

Everything we do in life, both the big things and the small achievements, has steps that are involved. For example, when you start your day, there are steps. First, you wake up, then you get out of bed, and then you can walk into the kitchen. The same goes for dressing up or whatever else you do. Everything you do begins with a single step. The same goes for stopping gambling.

The first step, which you have already accomplished, is to admit that you have a problem. The next step is to think of ways to solve the problem. You need to gather information to know what you can do and how to solve the problem of regaining control of your life. Where do you get the information from? From someone who has already done what you want to do and has gone through what you are experiencing now. In other words, it would be helpful to talk to other people who have dealt with a gambling problem.

Where do you find them? Well, you might know someone who has successfully stopped gambling, but if they haven’t, or if you’d rather talk to someone who doesn’t know you, you can always call GA, Gamblers Anonymous. As the name implies, the call can be anonymous. You can go to a meeting and hear how other people are dealing with the situation and that can also be anonymous. GA people don’t go out and tell other people what they heard at a GA meeting. You know the saying, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”, well, what happens in a GA meeting stays in the meeting as well.

The point is, if you’ve gotten to the point where you can say, “Help, I need to stop playing now,” then you’re ready to gather information using the national GA hotline that will provide that help. Just one step at a time and the next step is gathering information. If you look at it that way, it will be doable, maybe not always easy, but you can do it.
